Best Biscuits from Clabber Girl

Best Biscuits Ingredients: 2 cups sifted flour 3 teaspoons Clabber Girl Baking Powder 1 teaspoon sugar 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar Dash of salt 1/3 cup shortening 3/4 cup milk Instructions: Stir together first five ingredients. Cut in shortening. Make a well in the center, add milk. Stir til dough clings; knead 20 strokes. Roll on floured board. Cut with biscuit cutter. Bake at 450 degrees for 9-10 minutes. Serve warm!

Home Made Baking Mix This is a versatile mix, and works well as a substitute in other "baking mix" recipes. This stores well on the counter or cupboard for 3 months, or in the refrigerator for 6 months. If you want to substitute part whole wheat flour, it is recommended you store the mix in the refrigerator, since the oils in whole wheat flour can make it turn rancid faster than all-purpose flour. Basic Baking Mix   (printable) 9 cups all-purpose flour (may substitute up to half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour, whole wheat pastry flour - you can also use your choice of bleached or unbleached flour) 1/3 cup baking powder 1 tablespoon salt 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 1/4 cup granulated sugar 2 cups shortening In a large bowl combine flour, baking powder, salt, cream of tartar and sugar. Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings Deluxe Makes 4 servings. Ingredients: Dumplings: 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons Clabber Girl Baking Powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup butter 2/3 cup milk 4 baking apples 1/3 cup brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 2 teaspoons butter Milk Sauce: 2 cups water 1/4 cup lemon juice 1/3 cup butter 3 Tablespoons Clabber Girl Cornstarch 1 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg Instructions: Dumplings: Sift together flour, Clabber Girl Baking Powder and salt, cut in butter. Stir in milk; mix until soft dough is formed. Knead 4 strokes and separate into 5 balls. Roll each to 1/8" thickness. Place 4 of the balls on a workspace for apples. Core and peel apples, placing one on each square. Combine sugar and spices; sprinkle into center of each apple, adding 1/2 teaspoon butter to each. Moisten edges of dough; press corners up over apples. Cut the last square of dough into strips and wrap around tops of apple dumplings
