pound beef stew meat

teaspoon beef base
3
large carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces (2 cups)

medium stalks celery, cut into 1-inch pieces (1 1/2 cups)

cloves garlic, finely chopped

medium onion, coarsely chopped (1 1/2 cups)

teaspoon pepper
1
can (19 ounces) Progresso® cannellini (white kidney) beans, rinsed and drained
1
can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes in puree, undrained
1
jar (12 ounces) beef gravy
2
teaspoons Italian seasoning
1
teaspoon sugar

cups Green giant® frozen cut green beans (from 1-pound bag)
  • 1Place beef, beef base, carrots, celery, garlic, onion, pepper, kidney beans, tomatoes and gravy in order listed in 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker.
  • 2Cover and cook on low heat setting 10 to 12 hours.
  • 3Stir in Italian seasoning, sugar and frozen green beans. Increase heat setting to high. Cover and cook 15 minutes or until green beans are tender.

Southern Recipes!!

When the weather gets "yucky" outside, its time for winter comfort food! Here is a favorite.  Hope everyone is having a good day!  It's almost Friday!

Meat Loaf and Topping

2 lbs. ground beef
1 1/2 cup soft bread crumbs
3/4 cups water
2 eggs
1 envelope onion soup mix
1/3 cup ketchup
2 Tbsp bell pepper

Topping:

1 8 oz can tomato sauce
3 Tbsp brown sugar

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine all ingredients and form into a loaf. Pour topping over the meat. Bake 45 to 50 minutes.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Ripe or green tomatoes may be fried. Cut in slices and dust each side with salt, pepper, and flour. Brown tomatoes on both sides in a hot buttered frying pan. Drop bits of butter between slices and cook very slowly  until tender.   Serve hot.
