Old Fashioned Apple Dumplings Deluxe
Makes 4 servings.
Ingredients:
- Dumplings:
- 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons Clabber Girl Baking Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2/3 cup milk
- 4 baking apples
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons butter
- Milk
- Sauce:
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/3 cup butter
- 3 Tablespoons Clabber Girl Cornstarch
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions:
Dumplings:
Sift together flour, Clabber Girl Baking Powder and salt, cut in butter. Stir in milk; mix until soft dough is formed. Knead 4 strokes and separate into 5 balls. Roll each to 1/8" thickness. Place 4 of the balls on a workspace for apples. Core and peel apples, placing one on each square. Combine sugar and spices; sprinkle into center of each apple, adding 1/2 teaspoon butter to each. Moisten edges of dough; press corners up over apples. Cut the last square of dough into strips and wrap around tops of apple dumplings, tying a delicate bow. Brush with milk.

Heat water, lemon juice and butter. Combine remaining ingredients; mix thoroughly. Stir into hot mixture; cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
