Strawberry Shortcake from Farmer's Almanac!!

  When fresh berries abound, who can resist the charm of this classic dessert? Let the sliced, sugared berries sit for at least an hour to get good and juicy. Yield:  6–8 servings Preparation Time: 35 minutes Start to Finish Time: 50 minutes 1 quart (about 2 pounds) fresh strawberries 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for work surface 4 teaspoons baking powder 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided 1/2 teaspoon table salt 5 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, plus extra for pie dish 3/4 cup milk 1 cup heavy cream 1 teaspoon vanilla Preheat oven to 425°F. Grease a 9-inch pie dish and set aside. Slice strawberries into a medium-size bowl and toss gently with confectioners’ sugar. Set aside. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, and salt. Using a pastry cutter or two forks, cut butter into flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well in the center and add milk, stirring with a fork just to blend.

Visit the   LEGO Club Magazine Sign Up   and fill out your child's name, gender, date of birth, and your email. You'll then be sent an email to the address you provided so you can confirm that it's okay for your child to join the LEGO Club. After clicking the confirmation link, you'll then be able to provide their mailing address and your phone number to finish the sign-up process. When to Look Your First LEGO Magazine The first issue of your free LEGO magazine will arrive in the mail within 6-14 weeks. Visit  Freecycle  and enter your city and state and click  Go  to see a list of Freecycle groups in or close to your town. Click on the town's Freecycle group you'd like to join. You'll see a brief description of how Freecycle works and what you need to do to get started. Click on the link at the bottom of the description to visit the Yahoo group for your city. Read the welcome message at your city's Freecycle yahoo group and click  Join This Group!  You'll need to sign in with a Yahoo login or create a login if you don't already have one.

Every year the Barnes and Noble summer reading program, Imagination's Destination, gives out a free book to each child who reads 8 books over the summer.
