It's been raining for the past three days and your kids are stir crazy and you are ready to pack a bag and secretly slip out the back-door. It's times like this when it's time to get out of the house.
There are many things you can do in the rain, especially if it's just raining with no thunder or lightening and it's warm outside. Go get the kids dressed and head outside and play in the rain. Yes, you read that right, go outside and play in the rain. The kids will have a blast getting muddy and love jumping in the puddles.
Now of course the kids will soon tire of this activity and back inside we go. The good part now is the kids are not as energetic as before and quiet games might just be thing that will want to do now!
Making cookies is always fun, but make sure you let the kids do all the mixing, of course under your supervision, but they will beam with pride knowing they actually helped with the cooking.
If you still have Christmas wrapping paper stocked for next year, take one roll and turn it into a work of art. This activity can take up at least an hour or so and this can give Mom a time to rest. Besides coloring is really relaxing. So, go get the crayons and roll out the paper on the white side and start making your rainy-day mural. Tell the kids you will hang it up in a room, so all the family can enjoy its beauty! What kid doesn't like attention and at the same time get to show off their art skills!
If you're like me, you are just about ready to get in the car and take an afternoon road trip. You don't have to go far or spend money. Just pack all the kids in the car, pack a lunch and snacks and go for a drive.
There are many games you can also play while on the road. Depending on the age, you can have them count how many red cars or trucks they see and the one who counts the most in 10 minutes will be rewarded with a snack of their choice. This game can be about car tags, stop signs or who can count to one hundred first, by counting all the passing cars.
Believe or not most of the time after this car ride, it will suddenly get quiet and you glance to the back and find all kids sleeping soundly. Your work is done, Mom can now enjoy the long way home and it will be all in peace and quiet! You can now smile to yourself! You made it through another rainy-day adventure.
