Traveling is what can make life interesting. Many people think they can't afford to travel, but there are many ways to save on road trips. If you are on a budget, keep yourself on a budget, so once you get home you will not have to decide what bill to not pay this month due to your excessive crazy spending. Besides getting away is always a plus to your self-esteem, particularly in the winter months when cabin fever is so prevalent.
Discovering new places to eat and going to new towns to visit, can be almost like a adrenal push. Your emotions run high, it's 5 am and you feel giddy like a kid again. It's just the right type of magic you need to forget about everyday life for a bit.
Sure, you could get up at 5 am and run up the road to the local 24 hour breakfast place, but it's just not the same. You get to make plans, pack clothes at the last minute and then get to bed and once you lay down, you realize you are too "wired" to sleep. This is what planning a trip is all about, the sleepless night before the trip and then getting in the car at the crack of dawn. It's doing something different. It's getting excited about spending the rest of the weekend in a packed car, with hyper kids and maybe the dog barking commands to the neighbor's dog as you back out of the driveway. You have to admit that early weekend road trips are the best.
Take in a town that is maybe 100 miles away, this way you get to enjoy the exhilaration of the drive and the kids are limited on how many times they can ask are we there yet. Take a deep breath and simply enjoy your weekend on the road!
