Family Road Trip: Strawberry Picking

Strawberry Picking in Georgia

It's strawberry season in the south,  so let's head out to the "Go Pick Em Farms!  Your kids will love being able to pick strawberry's right from the plants. Just when you thought your picking strawberry's days were over, spring time arrives in the south and your local Pick Em farms are open for business!

There are strawberry farms located across Georgia, where you can find the largest and sweetest strawberry's to make pies, shakes, jelly or just eat fresh right off the plant. Strawberry picking starts in March and last until May in Georgia. Grab your sunglasses, a pail and let's get to work! Be sure to dress comfortable.

Here are a couple of farms to choose from:

Ottawa Farms - Bloomingdale, Georgia. You will find Strawberry U-Pick fields, followed by Blackberries and Blueberries. Visit http://ottawafarms.com or call 912-748-3035 for more information. Ottawa Farms offers families a wide variety of activities besides strawberry picking, a general store and an annual Strawberry Festival.

Southern Belle Farm - Mcdonough, Georgia. You will find  5-acres of strawberries. They have several farm activities for the kids and a hay ride. They are only opened on weekends. After the hay ride, head to the concession stand for homemade strawberry ice-cream. They are located at 1658 Turner Church Road, McDonough, Georgia 30252, 770-288-2582. Call for prices.
