FAMILY VEGGIE GARDEN

Picking veggies can be fun and  it can also be hot and sweaty work, but the rewards are very tasty! It's time to have a family meeting to decide what to plant in your veggie garden! This can be a fun time for parent's and  also a good way to get your kids to try out new veggies.

Do your kids like to play in dirt?  What kid doesn't like to get dirty!  Kids will love to be able to plant a seed and watch it sprout up.  What  supplies do you need to start your family garden? You should be able to find all that you are looking for at any Walmart, Lowes or Home Depot. Just remember to start small, this way parents and kids don't get overwhelmed before you even dig that first  hole! Also you don't have to go crazy and think you need all types of garden tools! A hoe, seeds and plenty of water is great for starters!

First of all you will need a spot for your garden. Be sure the water faucet is near by so you will be able to keep it watered. You will need seeds and a few tomato plants. Kids will love to plant the seeds but sometimes seeds can take longer than their patience can handle, so having a plant that is about ready to bear fruit will keep the kids interest while waiting for the seeds to sprout!

Be sure to take pictures with your kids each day, this way they can see how fast the seed is growing, plus Mom and Dad will love looking back and seeing how quickly your child has grown over the summer! Your kids will also be amazed how quickly plants will grow, some may even grow taller than they are!

Make gardening fun. You can tell your kids to have a contest and see how many weeds they can pull. Have a family night and pick out a few recipes you and your kids will want to try once the produce starts coming in. Take a road trip to see veggie pick-them farms. This way kids will be able to see what can grow from just a seed and can feed a whole family.

Gardening can be educational, fun and a lot of work but the time spend together will be priceless.
Who knows you may have a future master gardener on your hands!
