June 8th is World Oceans Day, so join us as we celebrate and honor our incredible oceans—the true blue heartbeat of our planet. “Seas” the day and make choices that protect this amazing resource so that the abundance and beauty of our oceans can be enjoyed by generations to come.
5 Easy Actions You Can Take For the Well-being of Our Oceans:
  1. Support Organic Agriculture!
What happens on the land eventually ends up in the ocean, so help eliminate pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilizers running off into our waterways by choosing (or growing!) organic produce.
  2. Choose Sustainably Sourced Seafood!
Selecting pole & line caught tuna and wild caught salmon eases overfishing and helps support small scale fishing enterprises and coastal communities around the world who rely on the ocean for their livelihood.
  3. Pick up Beach Trash!
Every bit of trash that ends up on the beach is harmful to sea life. In just a few minutes, this simple act can make a big difference. We’ve even seen some beach-side cafés trading a free cup of coffee for a bucket of beach trash—that’s a win-win for all!
  4. Reduce Plastic Use!
Go beyond reusable grocery bags by eliminating more single-use plastic from your household, which in turn helps eliminate it from our oceans. Try beeswax wraps instead of plastic wrap (great for cheese!), buy reusable straws, frequent the bulk bin area of your local grocery store.
  5. Eat Low on the Marine Food Chain!
Sardines, anchovies and other small fish are delicious, healthy and a great way to ease the stress placed on those predator species higher in the food chain. Never had a sardine? Now is a great time to try one!
