Do you want to make your own Shampoo or Conditioner?

Have you ever thought of making your own shampoo?  While perusing the local thrift store, I came upon a book that had some great recipes in it. One of course, was Basic Shampoo #1

Yes I do know that with coupons you can score shampoo for free, but this activity could turn into a fun afternoon with friends and family! We all could stand some extra family bonding! I know I could!

This shampoo is a thin version. For hair that shines, apply just a dime's worth (no more than a quarter).  A little goes a long way!

1/2 cup distilled water
1/2 cup castile liquid soap
1/4 teaspoon safflower or almond oil
Plastic squeeze bottle

Mix the ingredients together in a clean squeeze bottle or empty shampoo bottle. Shake well to combine.. Shampoo and rinse with cool water.

GrandMa's Favorite Conditioner

1/4 cup distilled water
1 table spoon unflavored gelatin
1 fresh egg yolk
2 table spoons fresh lemon juice

Warm the water in the microwave. Add gelatin and stir to dissolve. Remove from the stove.
Add the egg yolk and lemon. Mix well to combine

Wash and rinse your hair. Apply the conditioner and massage into hair and scalp. Leave on 2 minutes Rinse thoroughly

Check Out Southern Living's New Cook Book-SuperFast Southern!

Many of us have been given the love of reading a good book, it maybe a
a steamy, jazzy romance or a action packed on the edge of the seat mystery or maybe a
cook book!

Yes, I have this crazy love to read cook books! Especially the Southern ones! You can give me a glass of sweet tea, a comfy spot on the sofa and this can become two to three hours of sweet relaxation! Here I can  dream of being a talented southern cook who can dish out a delectable meal for the family every night!

If your wondering if I cook all the time, Yes I do, but not as much as I would like, but can't a girl dream of being a top Southern Cook and having the finest dinner in the south made every night? I told you this girl has dreams! What with work and life in general its tough to make that special meal for your family every night.

Southern Living magazines have always been a weakness of mine and the fact that they are produced about an hour from me is even more fascinating! Yes, Southern Living if your reading this I would love to take a tour of the headquarters and leave with arms full of great things to read!

Southern Living Superfast SouthernRecently I was given the opportunity to look over a new Southern Living Cook Book! It's called, "Super Fast Southern". It has a wonderful collection of recipes even the novice cook would not be fearful to try.

I just had to share with you a great recipe in this new Cook Book! I think you will love all the recipes and I am sure a few of the recipes will become a repeat/regular in your meal planning for your weekly meals!

Pork-and-Green Bean Stir-Fry

The key to this dish is developing a nice char on the green beans. To do so, heat the oil in your skillet until it almost smokes before adding the beans. Let them sear, stirring every 20 to 30 seconds, and they’ll take on color.

Serves 4

1½ lb. ground pork
2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
½ tsp. table salt
¼ tsp. ground rep pepper
1 (8-oz.) package haricots verts (thin green beans)
1 Tbsp. peanut oil or vegetable oil
¾ cup triple-ginger or regular teriyaki sauce

½ tsp. loosely packed lime zest
1 Tbsp. fresh lime juice
Hot cooked rice or thin rice noodles.

Brown ground pork and next 3 ingredients in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring often, 7-8 minutes  or until meat crumbles and is no longer pink, drain. Wipe skillet and clean.

Cook green beans in hot oil in skillet over medium-high heat stirring occasionally 4-5 minutes or until just tender and slightly charred.  Stir together teriyaki sauce and next
two ingredients. Stir pork mixture into green beans, stir in teriyaki mixture, tossing to coat.
Serve immediately over rice or noodles.

I have really enjoying reading and trying out many recipes in this new cook book.
